Lean Manufacture
ProModel simulation is helping companies achieve their lean manufacturing
objectives. Lean can mean different things to different people.
Maximising utilisation of equipment, increased staff productivity,
minimum manning, maximum throughput with minimum inventory, cost
reduction all contribute to a lean operation, yet they can conflict
with other business objectives.
For example, to achieve total compliance on customer
deliveries may require a relaxation of other objectives, such as
minimum inventory or stock levels. How important are they and how
can you quantify their effect on the different objectives? Using
ProModel, many companies are simulating their production operations
to test how sensitive they are to such changes in operating practices.
For example, by adopting lean methods, what are the risks and probabilities
of failing to meet customer service targets, and what are the financial
consequences. Only by simulation the various options can companies
understand the impact of their decisions, and at the same time,
be confident that their strategy meets all business objectives. |
